Walkathon 2007
To Raise Funds for Genetic Testing of New and Recruited Families
The Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry was established in 1995 by a group of specialists of
the University of Hong Kong Medical Centre at Queen Mary Hospital to offer a unique multidisciplinary service to hereditary colorectal cancer (HCRC) families in Hong Kong. Up to the end of 2006, more than 640 families have been recruited and followed up. More than 180 families in Hong Kong were already confirmed to be affected by HCRC. Details of the Walkathon
Date : 25 November 2007 (Sunday)
Time : 8:45am – 4:00pm
Walking routes :
Route (A): Lavender Garden -> Fanling -> Hok Tau Reservoir (a gazebo after the dam) -> Lavender Garden (About 1.5 hours for the whole trip)
Route (B): Lavender Garden-> Fanling -> Hok Tau Reservoir (a gazebo after the dam) -> Hok Tau Reservoir Family Walk -> Lavender Garden
Participants will hike along the Hok Tau Reservoir. There will have unpaved pathways, rough tracks and stairs. However, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as the running streams. This route is recommended for experienced hikers.
(About 3 hours for the whole trip)
Pick-up point : Entrance of the Romantic Hotel, Kowloon Tong. (KCR Kowloon Tong Station; MTR – B2 exit)
Program : Walkathon - Lunch at Lavender Garden, Free time, Departure at 4:00pm by Shuttle Bus

Enrollment deadline : 31 October 2007
Participation Fee
Upon registration, each participant has to pledge to raise at least HKD$500.00 (HKD$200.00 for those aged 12 or below) to support the Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Project. Lunch, bottled distilled water and round-trip transportation from Kowloon Tong KCR Station to Lavender Garden will be provided free of charge.
Prize and Recognition
In order to show our recognition and gratitude to the participants, a prize will be awarded to an individual and a family that raise the highest donation in their respective category. All participants are requested to complete the payment procedures 2 weeks before the Walkathon event according to the “Payment Method” listed below.
Winners, both individual and family categories, will be notified, and prize presentation will be held right before the Kick-Off Ceremony.

Payment Method Please prepare a cheque payable to “The University of Hong Kong” stated for “the Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Project” at the back and send it to us by post on or before 12 November 2007.

For those who cannot take part in this Walkathon but are willing to make a donation to support the Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry, please send your cheques payable to “The University of Hong Kong” stated for “the Hereditary Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Project” at the back and send the cheques to us by post.
